HOW DO I CONCEIVE TEACHING EFL?
At the beginning of this course, I thought that it was going to be difficult because I didn´t have any experiences in teaching and that scared me to do a bad job, I was afraid to commit errors in my classes like for example if I didn´t explain grammar in a interesting way and student could get bored, or what activities I was going to use, the time and a lot aspects that I considered very important, in brief I consider that all these as challenges for me. During this course, I realized that It was not an easy job for teachers, in fact, the teacher is not only a person who is standing in front of the class, being a teacher involve a lot of things in every class that the teacher develop, also a teacher learned to know how are his students, what are some issues that they have to learn a foreign language, in this case English language and use strategies to facilitate their learning process, also their ages, their learning styles, the levels, etc. Something important to consider at the moment of teaching EFL is that the students have to develop the 4 different skills : listening, reading, writing and speaking, also the use of vocabulary in English is very important. In brief, teaching EFL is very complicated because involves a lot of aspects that the teacher have to consider in every class.
WHAT IS THE ROLE OF THE TEACHER IN A EFL CLASSROOM?
The role of the teacher in a EFL classroom is being a facilitator, explainer, motivator, controller, monitor assessor, corrector, etc. A facilitator because as the word says, he have to facilitate to the students to understand. and practice in the easiest way as possible. It means, that the teacher have to look for the most appropriate activities, strategies, etc. to facilitate the student´s learning process.
Also, the teacher has to be a explainer, using different methods, strategies, activities and ways to teach or explain the class and be creative at the moment to teach. Motivator, the teacher has to motivate to the students to want to learn; Controller, the teacher has to use different strategies as the seating arrangement , give instructions, etc. Also, he has to monitor the student´s work, participation, responsibility, etc. Assessor, he has to assess students´s development in all the activities assign to them. Corrector, the teacher has to correct student´s pronunciation, vocabulary, grammar structure and other issues.
In brief, the teacher has to be someone who helps students to feel motivate for practicing and improving their English language learning.
The role of students is to pay attention and develop all the activities that the teacher asks them to do. Also, another students´ role is to participate in classes, bring homework etc, in fact, their job is being a student it means that they have to dedicate their time being people who focus in developing all the activities to learn more , practice not only in the classroom but also in their homes and trying to improve their learning every time taking advantages of all the activities, techniques, strategies, etc that the teacher uses in classes.
WHAT ARE MY EXPECTATIONS OF AN EFL CLASSROOM?
My expectation of an EFL classroom is to improve my teaching now that I have experiences in applying many important aspects in teaching as planning lessons, develop activities, using strategies, techniques, macro skills, learning styles, etc to develop my capacity as teacher and also learn new things that can help me to develop better classes and continue improving in my teaching.
